GREENTHREAD TEA One box 20 servings
One box, 20 servings
American Indian tribes of the southwestern United States use Greenthread—a drought-hardy perennial herb—to make a tea-like beverage. This drink is also known as Navajo Tea, Hopi tea or Indian Tea, as it is traditionally brewed by the Navajo, Hopi and Pueblo peoples. The Greenthread plant is appropriately named for its leaves, which are thread-thin and dusty green in color.
Traditionally, the plant is harvested as the flower buds open. It is then washed and dried in the sun. Medicinally, Greenthread tea is a mild diuretic and is consequently recognized as beneficial for the kidneys. It is similarly known to purify the blood.
The Navajo Tea plant has been picked, dried, and brewed as an herbal tea in the high-meadows of Arizona’s Chuska mountains by generations of Navajo people. Its mild flavor has a natural sweetness and aroma which make it an ideal tisane.
Yellow Bird joined her Grandmother, Yanabah as a child in the Chuska Mountains to pick Navajo Tea. Years later she created Yanahbah tea with the hope of spreading traditions and stories of Navajo Tea.
