Native Harvest Wild Rice
Two 1 lb boxes
Anishinaabeg Native rice is absolutely delicious. One heaping
serving of it is never enough. This organic wild rice is hand
harvested each fall in the beautiful lake region of Northern
Minnesota. The medium brown rice is a highly texturized, uneven
grain, with a rich, toasted flavor.
This rice makes a great side dish to any heritage meat especially
Amercian Bronze turkey, Bison or Red Wattle pork. We also like to
eat it in the morning with a little bit of butter and Vermont maple
syrup as the original American breakfast cereal.
The meaning of Anishnaabeg is "First-" or "Original-Peoples".
Another definition refers to "the good humans", or good people,
meaning those who are on the right road/path given to them by the
Creator (Great Spirit).
Our friend and a Heritage Foods USA Advisory Board member Winona
La Duke is who introduced us to the delicious products of the
Northern Minnesota Lake regions. While we have carried many
products from this group it is their wild rice that is by far the
most popular. This is one of the few rice varieties that is truly
wild. Winona is working to protect the wild label for producers
that truly raise the grain on open lakes.
